Andy Page's Rival
Henry Lawson, 1889
Editor's note: This poem is at the beginning of the story "Andy Page's Rival" by Henry Lawson, which he later expanded into a full poem, "Middleton's Rouseabout".
Tall and freckled and sandy,
Face of a country lout;
This was the picture of Andy
Middleton's Rouseabout.
On Middleton's wide dominions
Plied the stock-whip and shears;
Hadn't any opinions
And he hadn't any "ideers".
